Many of us can't stand silence even for a moment. We see this in the frequent scrolling through social media, and even in our incessant listening to music or podcasts when we're driving or walking. We all pay the price for willful ignorance. Examples? Many of us were in denial about climate change. So instead of our leadership investing in renewable energy, we now all have to pay for the hellish results of global warming. We have a government that pretends it can do anything it wants to other nations, without regard to reality. Example: Iran. And now we are all paying the price in terms of death, injury, loss of military capability, financial devastation and certainly loss of respect and power in the world. And we are not exempt from our unconsciousness on a personal level either. Some of us don't want to know that using drugs or alcohol will ruin our health even though that information is readily available. Eventually we pay the price in terms of our health and our relationships. People say that what you don't know doesn't hurt you, but the opposite is the case.

We want to keep informed about the really important things that are going on in our nation but if you're anything like me, you also can’t stand social media and the news. The constant anger, exaggerations, opinions and downright silliness make me incredibly angry as I feel like my inner space is being dominated by noise, lies, vitriol and wishful thinking. Let’s consider the US: When we look at some of the results of the primaries, it's hard to deny that there have been some shifts in the thinking of American voters, but does that signal a shift into caring more for one another, instead of just caring for ourselves, or is it all still motivated primarily by self-interest? The anti-establishment anger could be useful to galvanize people for change, but does it signal evolution in our consciousness? Freaking out about climate change when your house is on fire might lead to different voting behaviors, but does it show a change in our attitude towards the earth and ourselves? Do you think we are seeing some real shifts into oneness consciousness, or are we just seeing pendulum swings but no real change in us? Let's talk about it. Most of us have nagging problems that can run the gamut from annoying to devastating. Many of us have found no relief for these challenges. We try everything and nothing works. Sometimes we are blocking ourselves from freeing ourselves, but sometimes the social conditions or technology don't yet exist to help us improve or even transform society. I have been powerfully impacted by global warming and everyone else has been too. For some of us it's just the loss of the natural beauty of forests that are plagued by drought. For some it's wildfires, flooding, increased insurance rates or endangered crops. For many of us it's a health issue.
